Different Wedding Invitations

Your wedding theme is an important part of basically everything
that you will be doing at your celebration. The theme really
ties everything together and sort of dictates a lot of your
decorations, foods, and colors that you will be using. You need
to make sure that everything is part of your theme and that can
be a lot of work for you, and sometimes you will feel
overwhelmed. With all of this going on it can be really
difficult to remember everything that you need to do and
sometimes you might get a little bit mixed up and that is
understandable but you still need to be on top of your game.

One of the first things that you have to do is figure out your
invitations because those go out way before the wedding is even
about to come up. However, your invitations are still really
important because they are the first things that your guests
will see and the invitations will set the mood for the night
that is up and coming. So, when you send out your wedding
invitations you really need to think about all of this and how
you will incorporate it into your invites. Your guests will
really like to get this little sneak peek into the decorations
and style for your celebration so that they can get ready for it
and plan to maybe match your theme or buy you something that can
be incorporated into it. Here are just a couple examples of the
types of things you can find by shopping online.

Rose Embossed Invites:

These are really elegant invitations that promote traditional
themes and the look of a perfect bride. Flowers are a symbol of
eternity. Your wedding bond is supposed to be an eternal
spiritual bond between you and your new spouse so the flowers
are a great symbol of that bond that you have just formed.
Also, if you are having a summer or a flower theme then these
will really go great because your guests will already see those
kinds of decorations forming in their imagination and they will
expect to see that at your celebration. These are really just
great and they will impress your guests because they will see
that you have great style and that you put a lot of work into
planning your party.

Bachelorette Part Invites:

Okay, so this isn't for your wedding, but it is a very
important part of the wedding process. Your bridal shower is a
time for you to just let loose and relax. Traditionally, your
bridesmaids plan this event for you, but maybe you want to have
a little bit to do with it like picking the date or the
invitations. These invites are perfect because they reflect the
fun and vibrant atmosphere that a bridal shower should have.
The front features fun colors and the image of a classy looking
woman. The design of these cards is just really fashionable and
all of your friends will love getting one in the mail.

Wedding Anniversary Gifts Straight From The Head

It's nice to have a set of guidelines detailing the substance
you're expected to base your anniversary present on as each year
of wedded bliss passes. But let's be honest; it doesn't exactly
show off your wisdom, imagination or wit, does it? And who
really wants tin or fruit off everyone, or indeed ivory off
anyone? Let's get personal about proceedings!

There's someone in every family who has learnt the anniversary
gift protocol down to the letter. No sooner have you mentioned
that it's Ken and Mary's 27th than they have retorted with the
word "ketchup" without skipping a beat. You stare at the ground,
wondering what on earth you could buy that both celebrates their
partnership and satisfies these rigid rules – and who on earth
compiled this list of seemingly random materials in the first
place …

Yes, some of the items have a certain pragmatic grace or
glamour to them. Paper, for all its low-budget connotations, can
actually be the backbone of all manner of exciting gifts, from
books, albums and cards to travel and entertainment tickets,
pictures and humorous calendars. And as time goes by, the
silver, gold, pearl, ruby and diamond gifts will certainly be
appreciated. But the in-between years always seem a little
arbitrary, like the guesses in some game of Animal, Vegetable,
Mineral.

Except perhaps in the round-number years, this anniversary gift
etiquette is not followed all that rigidly beyond a hardcore
group of dedicated sticklers. Most of us are happy to give some
flowers, a bottle of wine or something sweet. The trouble is,
none of these gifts has "anniversary" written all over it. They
don't exactly celebrate the milestone of staving off divorce for
yet another year, do they? But with a little research, you'll
find a special gift that the couple will just love.

The trick is to get inside the minds of the couple and to find
out what they have in common. They have presumably got something
in common or they wouldn't have tied the knot in the first place
(unless they have taken the theory that opposites attract to its
ultimate conclusion, in which case you can buy them almost
anything and at least one of them will find it attractive).

To get inside their minds, get inside their household. Any
excuse will do: borrowing a drill; catching up on old times;
cadging a cup of sugar (not recommended if you live more than 50
miles away). Once you're over the threshold, start to snoop.
Take in the sights, sounds and smells that greet you and in the
first few seconds you'll be able to tell if they are art or
music lovers, boozers, travellers, house-proud types, collectors
or simply people who don't take themselves too seriously. Soon
your head will be full of present ideas, and then it's just a
simple case of getting on the internet and matching your
new-found knowledge with the bountiful selection of anniversary
gifts on offer.

You can still opt to obey the traditional wedding anniversary
gift protocols – but by focusing on the couple rather than the
material, you'll automatically put your imagination into gear
and choose something really special.

How To Plan A Destination Wedding

It's true, destination weddings are all the rage today.

What exactly is a destination wedding? In simple terms, it's a
wedding away from your hometown, either just the two of you, or
with family and friends. It can be as simple or elaborate,
inexpensive or lavish as you desire.

Okay, so it's the wedding trend of the day, but, is it any
simpler to plan? Or, is planning a wedding far from home even
harder than planning one in your own hometown? The answer to
that, of course, is up to you, and how lavish or unique you want
your wedding to be. Here are the steps in planning that
destination "I Do."

Step One: Who's Going to Attend?

Before you can plan your wedding destination, you really have
to decide who you're going to invite, as your guest list can
sometimes narrow your choices of destinations.

Is your destination wedding going to be for just the two of
you? Then the whole world is your oyster.

Are you going to invite a few close friends or family members?
If so, are you going to pick up the tab for their travel, or are
travel expenses to be paid by each individual? If you can't
afford to pick up the tab for travel to your wedding, and the
friends and family members would have a hard time coming up the
money, then you might want to pick some special place closer to
home. For example, if you live in Phoenix and want a destination
wedding where family and friends could easily travel to, you
might want to pick Sedona rather than Hawaii.

There might also be time restrictions for your guests as well.
Some people just can't take time off of work to attend your
wedding on some tropical island, whereas they might be able to
attend a wedding which is a few-hours drive away.

Step Two: When is the Wedding?

If the two of you are planning your wedding around vacation
time at work, then that too may dictate where you will have your
destination wedding. If your vacation time is during hurricane
season, you may want to skip Cancun and opt for the beaches of
Southern California instead.

Step Three: Draw up a Wedding Budget

Face it; some locations are just more traditionally affordable
than others. Your heart may be screaming the beaches of Costa
Rica, but your budget is screaming Las Vegas. Yes, we all want
to answer our heart's call, but your budget should have the last
word.

But, don't let that keep you from choosing a great, unique
wedding destination. You'd be surprised how many wonderful,
unique wedding destinations there are which may fit your budget.
B&Bs all over the United States, in such romantic destinations
as California, New England, Florida and Virginia, offer
inexpensive wedding packages for either just the two of your, or
several guests.

When considering your budget, you have to consider travel
expenses (flying or driving) as well as the wedding related
expenses. In addition, you should also plan on the costs for
accommodations, meals during your stay and even the things that
you would like to do there.

Step Four: Consider the Marriage Laws

Some locations in the United States as well as some countries
make having a wedding very difficult. You may have to deal with
specific requirements before you can actually wed. Before you
select a location at which to be married, make sure you know
what the laws in that location actually are.

Step Five: Hire a Wedding Planner or DIY

Once you've narrowed in on your wedding location, you need to
decide if you will be planning your wedding yourself or if you
will need to hire a wedding planner. If you are having a larger
destination wedding with numerous family and friends attending,
you may want to hire a wedding planner to help coordinate
everything.

If it's just the two of you, you can probably handle the
planning yourself. Often you can hire a wedding officiant who
has packages available which include picking a location,
performing the ceremony, as well as transportation, cake and
champagne. Resorts and even B&Bs also offer packages which make
the planning extra simple.

Step Six: Enjoy Your Honeymoon

Here's the best part of having a destination wedding. The
honeymoon starts right after the "I Do."

With destination weddings continuing to grow in popularity, and
more B&Bs, resorts and wedding planners offering wedding
packages, planning a destination wedding can be as simple as
planning a vacation. No more renting a hall, hiring a band,
sending invitations to an ever-growing list of guests. It's time
to take the stress out of your wedding planning and make it fun.
A destination wedding allows you to do just that.

Planning Your Dream Wedding In Mauritius

Organising luxury weddings in Mauritius is second nature to
many of the tour operators that offer this service. Dedicated
staff are on hand to assist in all the arrangements, help you
choose your venue, book flights, organize the flowers, photos,
wedding cake, food and drink and put together all the finishing
touches for your special day.

Wedding organizers will research hotels and check for special
group discounts if you are sharing your special day with family
and friends. Weddings are tailor made to your requirements
whilst staff at many of the islands luxury hotels will endeavour
to make your day as special as you deserve.

Before you get swept away by the romance of having a wedding
abroad, you will also need to consider the practicalities of
getting married in Mauritius. UK residents planning to marry in
Mauritius have the choice of a Civil Ceremony or a Religious
Ceremony. The following checklist is designed to act as a guide
to planning your luxury wedding in Mauritius and is by no means
comprehensive.

• Before you fly out you will need to apply for a Certificate
of Non-residence by sending a request to the Registrar of Civil
Status at least one month before your intended wedding date. It
should be sent with copies of both of your full birth
certificates and a copy of the first three pages of your
passports, as well as any relevant divorce/death documentation.
The certificate is then issued by the Prime Minister's Office in
Port Louis, so you need to allow at least 10 days for processing
before your wedding date. It is worth enquiring as to any other
relevant documentation that you may need on application of your
Certificate of Non-residence.

• For a civil ceremony you must be present on the island up to
24hrs before the wedding. However it is advisable you arrive at
least 3 days before to complete formalities. For religious
ceremonies arrive at least 15 days prior to the ceremony and
note that if you decide to have your wedding at one of the
hotels you will normally be required to book a minimum stay of 7
nights.

• When you arrive in Mauritius you will have to visit the Civil
Status Office ensure you have all your original documents with
you otherwise you will not be able to collect your non-residence
certificate. You must swear an affidavit before a judge in
chambers in Port Louis. The Civil wedding may then be celebrated
one day after the publication of your marriage banns, providing
you have confirmed time and location with the Registrar.
Weddings can be held Monday to Friday, excluding Public
Holidays.

• Civil Ceremonies are conducted by a Civil Status Officer
commonly at the local register office or at a location of your
choice from a hotel to a secluded beach. If you opt for a
wedding ceremony at a hotel check whether they guarantee only
one wedding per day at the resort as do Beachcomber Hotels, so
you don't have to share your special day with anyone else.

• Two witnesses are required to be present throughout the
proceedings.

• Expect the ceremony to last between 20-30 minutes after which
you will receive your Wedding Certificate. Clarify with the
Civil Status Office to ensure that your Wedding will be
registered in Mauritius and in doing so will be legal back home
in the UK.

• If you would like a religious ceremony it is possible to have
an Anglican or Catholic wedding in Mauritius. However although
possible Catholic weddings are very difficult to arrange for
non-Mauritians. You must first have a Civil wedding in either
the UK or Mauritius, preferably in the UK. If you or your
partner have been divorced it will not be possible to have a
religious ceremony.

• If your marriage certificate is written in a foreign language
you will need to ensure it is translated on your return to the
UK.

For planning of luxury weddings in Mauritius you should contact
the countries embassy in the UK for further information.

Internet Trends for the New Year: Stock Wedding Photos Online

Every year, about 2.4 million couples get married in the
U.S. and the average wedding costs $20,000. Weddings are a
$70 billion a year business, according to an online wedding
resource company called The Knot.

New developments in technology over the last decade have
enabled processes that now produce fast and inexpensive
on-demand production and distribution for a variety of
products and services. It was during the Digital Revolution
in the 1990s when there was a rapid drop in costs and
expanded power of digital devices such as digital cameras,
computers and mobile telephones.

Today, photographers have mastered the art form of digital
photography, which allows clients much greater flexibility
and artistic style for their cherished images which can be
placed in digital photo frames, on websites and shared via
iPods, handhelds, and on the Internet.

Media outlets have also had to change the way they do
business in view of the Internet and online publishing,
including the use of stock images as opposed to high-budget
editorial productions. With the evolution of computers,
chips and networks, futurists predict that four billion
people will be doing Internet commerce by 2025.(Source: The
Extreme Future, by James Canton.)

More and more photographers are adding stock photo websites
and the latest trends includes cutting edge wedding images
with wedding reception photos, beach wedding photos,
celebrity stock photos, the green wedding, photos of
wedding reception decorations, wedding fashions, scenes of
brides, getting ready, bridesmaids, grooms, groomsmen, the
bridal party, flowers, receptions, ceremonies, the toast,
cake cutting, dancing and departures.

The Internet has created conditions where photographers can
share a voice through images that provide a unique take on
cultural trends and how they will shape weddings in the
future. Many have launched wedding stock photos websites
because of the tremendous growth in online advertising that
is communicating, connecting and influencing contemporary
and captive audiences online. Stock photography saves money
on skyrocketing and extravagant production costs.

"Wedding images is a marketplace in itself, and it's
important to offer those seeking wedding stock images a
wide variety. Today's wedding ceremonies are often in
unusual venues such as museums, gardens, spas, even zoos.
And today's green weddings provide images of
environmentally friendly flowers, beach wedding photos,
table décor and hybrid cars and limos," said award-winning
photo journalist, John Unrue.

Wedding images include fabulous food photos, jewelry,
fashions, flowers, gifts churches, hotels, and even travel
and destination, which can all be used on other websites
and in magazines for hundreds of other products and
services. There are also countless opportunities to shoot
close-up images of family, friends and loved ones sharing
moments that reflect timeless expressions that can be
adapted to satisfy many other categories for websites or
editorial image requirements.

Consider An Authentic Costa Rica Wedding

If you are planning a wedding in Costa Rica you may want to opt
for an authentic ceremony using Costa Rica wedding customs.

The main goal of having a foreign destination wedding after
all, is to do away with the ordinary and traditional and to
settle with only the unique and the exceptional. Having a
genuine Costa Rican wedding is not that difficult to achieve.
You will find that there are just a few Costa Rica wedding
customs to include in your plans.

Many weddings in Costa Rica involve a beautiful beach ceremony.
This country is renowned for its sublime beaches the world over,
and most couples would like to indulge in this luxury while
exchanging vows. In the olden past, Costa Rican brides would
wear a black silk dress and a lace veil and for the grooms, a
shirt that is hand embroidered by his beloved bride. These days
however, a white sundress is a more typical and fitting bridal
wear, and a formal wedding shirt and pants for the groom's
outfit.

Of course, you may choose a more modern wedding ceremony which
can be modified to meet your plans. Some brides prefer to wear
long gowns and elaborate veils even during a seaside wedding. In
addition some couples would prefer a more formal arrangement
even while doing an outdoor wedding. But for most couples, a
Costa Rican wedding involves the sun, the sand, and the warmth
of family and friends. The bride frequently wears a simple yet
elegant sundress, and holds a bouquet of exotic blooms all
throughout the ceremony, as the beautiful sunset lends a
romantic glow to the event.

Costa Rica is basically a country that is torn between the old,
time-honored traditions and the advent of the new and modern
ways. Much of the people however, remains conservative at heart
and still upholds traditionalist values. Costa Ricans are a
family oriented people who love gatherings and festivities. The
family members of a Costa Rican are almost always present in the
most significant occasions of his life, and wedding celebrations
are no exception.

Present family members and relatives of both the bride and
groom during the wedding is a typical set-up in Costa Rican
marriages. The more guests, the better blessed the couple will
be. Your guests will find that an inexpensive Costa Rica
vacation is a great way to attend your wedding. Also, one of the
most significant Costa Rica wedding customs would be the late
night partying complete with Spanish-Latin music accompaniment
and plentiful servings of food for the guests. Live music may
also include some forties style beats and reggae tunes.

Costa Ricans prefer to have an abundance of food selections
served to the guests like meat, salads, and other authentic
dishes like the gallo pinto. Because of the large number of
guests, it is a part of the genuine Costa Rica wedding customs
for food and refreshments to be readily available. Barbeques on
open hot coals are also ideal for a beach wedding reception,
where the guests' tables are set up on the sand, and the natural
sea breeze providing natural ventilation. And because Costa
Ricans love to party well into the night, both alcoholic and
non-alcoholic drinks should be on hand too. All these make a
Costa Rican wedding truly extraordinary.

So when planning your Costa Rican wedding you may want to add
local customs to make your wedding ceremony unique. Memories of
your wedding will be enhanced by the beautiful location and
special customs found only in Costa Rica.

Top Five Ideas For A Wedding Centrepiece

Most centrepieces are mostly, if not entirely, comprised of
traditional flowers. Many people however, make the mistake of
regarding flower centrepieces as the only option. Instead why
not go for something a little more inventive and unique.

There are thousands of potentially amazing centrepieces out
there, and here are my top 5 show stopping centrepieces.

5. Water:
Water adds an elemental, fluid, feeling to the table. It has
connotations with new life and the cleansing of the body from
sin. Marriage is the beginning of a new life so they merge
perfectly. Water works well when combined with flowers
(particularly submerged gerbera I find), with floating candles
or with a waterfall type effect.

4. Candles:
Candles are deeply symbolic, connected with the idea of the
light and warmth of love. They add a certain intimacy and
conjure the idea of romance. Fire also has connotations with
purification and new life, perfect for a wedding as you begin
your new lives together.

It is practical for the candle to be covered (particularly if
there are children at the wedding), perhaps in a stylish votive
holder or be original with an old fashioned style lantern.

3. Crystals:
Crystals have links with good luck and healing so are a good
omen at a wedding. More than that they provide an interesting
and different centrepiece which encourages people to touch and
interact with it. Weddings with a lot of children are a great
chance to use crystals, children love them and can often be
encouraged to sit playing quietly (well....quieter) during
speeches and toasts.

2. Themed Centrepieces:
Themes don't have to be all encompassing - little hints of a
theme can work well without overloading the senses. Use an
objective friend or a wedding planner to make sure you don't get
lost in the theme or it can end up looking massively overdone.

Examples of themes are:

Seasons – For Autumn using leaves and pine cones look great,
especially with leaf shaped confetti scattered around the table.
This looks great and is environmentally friendly. You can also
`spice it up' a little with glitter.

For winter, its pure whites teamed with clear crystals and icy
tones. Lights and glitter really set off this look.

Cultural - Take inspiration from your own background. With an
Irish background you may consider using elements such as greens
shamrocks (a bit predictable but always festive), the heraldic
harp, Celtic cross, Celtic love knot, and the Claddaugh.

Oriental style themes could use red and black colours (for
luck), Shoji lanterns, black or white pebbles and, of course,
chop sticks.

Beach theme- While it does sound rather tacky, this can be done
in a variety of ways. The restrained way generally involves
quite muted colours such as blues etc, pebbles or shells, sand
and maybe even faux beach debris.

It all sounds a bit much but, when done well, can look amazing.
Now, if you're planning on a more outgoing take on the beach
theme why not go all out with brightly coloured shells and maybe
even a tiny fake palm tree or two.... tacky yes, but definitely
different and memorable.

1.Photos:

Photos can be a great way to make everyone feel involved,
particularly in smaller weddings. A place setting with a photo
on (or a baby photo if you're feeling cruel!) makes the extra
effort.

A great idea is to leave disposable cameras on the tables and
develop the pictures later. A variant on this is to get Polaroid
cameras with somewhere to stick the resulting photos in the
centre of the table. It's great to get people chatting,
particularly if respective families haven't met before. It also
leaves you with a great keepsake.

What's important to remember is that these can all be combined
in any number of variations. Photos obviously go great with
anything (except water!) while candles add to any number of
themes (especially Oriental). But the important thing is, when
everyone is giving you ideas, take other peoples thoughts on
board but ultimately be led by your own vision....and don't be
afraid to experiment!

Did You Forget About Food For Your Wedding Day?

You would think that with one of the biggest parts of the
wedding day being the reception, that food wasn't much of a
concern for the happy couple. If you are organized the least
little bit for your wedding, the odds are that you have already
take care of the catering end of things.

The problem that I have come across with couples on their
wedding day, on a very frequent basis, is the rest of the meals.
Before we get into why couples miss meals around their wedding,
let's take a look at what can result from low amounts of
nutrition on this ultra important day.

* Grumpiness! While you are probably on an emotional high, it
won't last, and missing some meals will catch up to you. It's
already a stressful event, and a lack of food in your system can
be an added drain on your reserves. Different people react in
different ways, but becoming over emotional in the form of tears
or snappiness are both fairly common.

* Fainting! You will be required to expend a lot of energy on
your wedding day by getting ready, standing around, driving
around, dancing, visiting, and so on. Many times brides AND
grooms who have been unable to eat end up falling down at the
altar.

Why didn't you eat?!

One way to avoid the hazards of a lack of nourishment on your
wedding day is to know exactly why so many couples don't have
enough in their systems. For the most part, this is due to
missed meals, and there are two big reasons for the exemptions:

1. Too nervous! The wedding day will give anyone butterflies,
and as it approaches most people don't feel as hungry as they
usually would.

2. Too busy! The days leading up to the wedding are pretty
packed and it can be hard to stop and have a bite to eat. In
addition, there is usually little time in between the ceremony,
the pictures, and the reception to get a bite for lunch.

Some quick fixes

Making sure that you are your best on your wedding day is often
a lot simpler than most people think. You don't have to overcome
those butterflies by stuffing yourself, but you do need to make
sure your body has at least the minimum amount of fuel it needs
to run. Here are a couple of ideas.

* Eat well at the rehearsal dinner. The day after is going to
be frightfully busy, and it is unlikely that your body will be
able to take in all the food it usually does until the reception
dinner. Take advantage of your rehearsal dinner to fill up!

* Eat a light breakfast. Brides in particular are notorious for
skipping breakfast as they get ready to head to the ceremony.
Don't neglect food altogether though; take the time to have a
glass of juice and/or mild, a piece of fruit, or even a muffin.
This little bit will power you through the ceremony.

* Have snacks ready. Most weddings will have the picture
session between the ceremony and the reception, and this can be
a long time in between meals. Make sure you arrange for someone
to bring snacks, again fresh fruit and drinks are the best
option (make sure someone also supplies some toothbrushes, just
in case!)

Don't be one of the many couples who forget about the little
meals on their wedding day! At the very least, going in under
nourished will compromise your ability to enjoy the day to its
fullest, and at the worst you might end up making a scene!

Cheap Wedding Fun For Children

Children at a wedding can be precious, precocious and sometimes
a problem. Little ones bore easily and don't really understand
the meaning of a wedding. Everybody is excited and dressed up
and then just sit around watching the girls in the beautiful
dresses and their handsome guys, well just stand there. At
least that's the point of few from the child. Finding cheap
wedding fun for the children can be a lifesaver.

Keeping kids occupied while the ceremony is going on and well
behaved during the reception can be a problem. If the site
where the wedding is to be held has a separate room close by in
the same building, it can be turned into a nursery of sorts.
Most wedding ceremonies take from 20 to 30 minutes but be
prepared with activities for at least 60 minutes.

Children can color pictures of the bride and groom. Play pin
the bouquet on the bride or boutonnière on the groom, or make
wedding bouquets out of paper flowers. In expensive activity
books for several age groups can be purchased and then divided
up among the children.

If the facility allows it consider providing a snack and
drinks. Ideas might include string cheese, children love it,
precut apple slices, and boxed cereal. Keep drinks to juice
boxes to cut down on spillage.

The children can be supervised by one adult and perhaps a
preteen or two. If the wedding is held in a church, the church
most likely has a nursery area which allows everything to be
seen and heard.

One sweet way for children to commemorate a wedding is to give
each of them a bag of rose petals and have them throw the petals
in front of the bridal couple after the ceremony. No matter how
hard a little boy might throw the petals they don't go very far.
Or each child could be given a bottle of bubbles and bubble
wand.

The reception can include special activities for children as
well. A table at child's height filled with small toys and
treats should keep them occupied for hours. The dollar store is
a good place to collect a few toys. Stuffed toys in the bridal
party colors tied with a ribbon and perhaps a few silk flowers
is a favor the children will treasure. Consider taking a group
photo of all the children with the bride and groom. It's a
lovely keepsake for the bridal couple and each child's parent
can receive a copy as well.

Older children and preteens can participate in the wedding
festivities at the ceremony and at the reception with special
tasks. Perhaps they can help serve the cake after it's cut.
One child could ask people to sign the guest book. Children can
hand out wedding favors as the guest leave. If you plan on
throwing bird seed or rose petals as the bridal couple leave the
children can hand out the packages. Give each older child or
preteen a disposable camera with flash and tell them to take
pictures. You will be amazed at the photos.

Keep the children occupied with cheap wedding fun ideas and
everyone will have a happy time.

Royal Cake Decorating- Queen Elizabeth Ii Diamond Wedding Anniversary

The diamond wedding, 60th wedding anniversary of Queen
Elizabeth II and Prince Philip is on the 20th November 2007

Little did I dream when enrolling for a course on Advanced
Royal Icing many years ago, that I would be copying the design
of the Queen's wedding cake.

When she married in 1947, McVitie and Price of Edinburgh
presented the Queen (then Princess Elizabeth) with a wedding
cake. The breathtaking four-tiered cake stood nine feet high,
and was decorated with hundreds of filigree-like pieces of royal
icing. Around the sides of the cakes were delicate, curved
`galleries', reminiscent of the turrets on Scottish castles - so
loved by the royal family.

And I am sure you can imagine how we felt when told we were
decorating a cake in the same design. Luckily, our cake, already
covered in marzipan, was only six inches across. So with the
weekend in front of us, and the guidance of an experienced
tutor, we set to work.

First, the royal icing had to be beaten to the correct
consistency - not too stiff, or it would not spread easily, or
too soft otherwise it would run down the sides of the cake. It
had to be the consistency of beaten double cream - soft enough
to give a smooth, even layer. Each layer had to dry before the
next was applied, and the cake given three layers,

Next we started to pipe the dainty lace-like pieces of royal
icing. Everything had to be ready in advance - the designs for
the cake were laid out, each under separate pieces of
transparent, non-stick paper. Curved moulds of differing sizes
were placed ready to receive each section immediately it was
piped.

This time the icing had to be another consistency. Well beaten,
so it would hold its shape, but soft enough to go through a
fine nozzle (tip). And to make sure the nozzle did not become
blocked, we pressed the icing through a square of nylon. Then
began the task of piping dozens of filigree pieces. As each
piece was finished, it was carefully placed over the right sized
curved mould - a dot of icing under each corner of the paper
kept the pattern in place.

It helps when piping fine detail to keep the elbow close to the
body. This prevents the arm moving. Supporting the icing bag
with the finger of the opposite hand is also a good idea - it
makes sure the piping goes exactly where you want it.

Talking about icing bags reminds me to say that for a task such
as the one above, only use a small icing bag. The larger the bag
the more difficult it is to control. And a bag made from baking
parchment is stronger than one made from greaseproof paper and
much more `user-friendly than a nylon bag. These are difficult
to grip and are usually far too large for working with royal
icing.

And so we spent two intensive days piping. It didn't help that
we were advised not to talk! Not that we felt much like
chatting, we needed all our concentration for the task in hand.
Eventually all the pieces were finished. Now came the job of
constructing the design.

Again the consistency of the icing was changed. We needed a
stiffer icing. Using a wooden spoon we re-beat the icing (this
alone made it slightly stiffer) and then added sieved icing
sugar. A slightly larger nozzle (tip) was chosen, and we set
about positioning the delicate sections in place. Once the paper
had been gently peeled away from the back of each piece, a line
of icing was piped on it, and it was carefully placed in
position.

Eventually we were able to sit back and admire our work.
Cameras came out and everyone relaxed and agreed it had been a
weekend well worth the effort. Our next worry was how to get the
cakes home in one piece!

Some years later I decided to decorate our son's wedding cake
in the same design. This time it was on a three-tiered cake -
but that's another story. Still, as Shakespeare wrote `All's
well that ends well' and it did.

Wedding Day Hair Styles for Men

Thats right; believe it or not, it is your wedding too. A wedding is a symbol of your commitment to the one you love, and as such, is one of the most important days of your life. As a prospective groom, you know that all of the attention is focused on your bride-to-be, but that does not mean that your own wedding day style needs to fall flat.

Tip #1: Let it fall forward. If you are normally a slicked back type of guy, take a tip from Tom Cruise and let your short/medium length hair fall forward on your face, using a professional quality molder matte texture cream. This look is perfect for those who want their hair to look slightly ruffled without looking sloppy, and women find it pretty appealing too-just ask Tom.

Tip #2: Spike it up. Now, this is your wedding day we are talking about, so huge, dramatic spikes probably are not an option, but you can still use a product like Professional quality spiker glue to give your hair a little bit of an edge. If your hair is longer in the front, try pushing it back from your forehead and spiking it up very slightly for an added dimension to your look.

Tip #3: Stay away from a new haircut: This one is more of a do than a do not, and its something that stylists and beauty magazines tell women over and over again. Why? Because fresh haircuts do not always turn out as expected, and even if they do, you will have less experience styling them, especially on your wedding day. That can lead to disaster, embarrassment, and less than perfect photos.

Tip #4: Stick with the classics. Your wedding day is not the time to try out a wild style idea. Most weddings, even when they are attended by non-traditional types of people, are very traditional, and your family (and your new wifes family) will want to take pictures-lots of them. These pictures will be in photo albums for years to come, so it only makes sense to put some real thought and effort into the wedding day hair style that you choose.

Tip #5: Ask your stylist. You may think that you do not need a stylist, but you would be surprised if you knew how many men go to them on a regular basis. Your stylist will be able to help you select a look, and the professional quality hair products, that are right for you.

Planning a Wedding On Budget - How Can You Do It?

While weddings are known for being highly expensive, it doesn't have to be that way. Many people choose to spend lots of money on a wedding because it is an event that they only expect to occur once. Being cheap with a wedding is considered to be taboo, especially in Western culture. However, there is a difference between being cheap and being frugal. In this article, I will show you how to plan a beautiful wedding without having to spend thousands of dollars. Planning should be the very first step in setting up an affordable wedding. You will need to pick the right location, a photography service, and you will also need the clothes, flowers, and the guest list.

You should sit down with your partner and decide where sacrifices can be made. The first thing you must accept is the fact that you won't be able to "have your cake and eat it to." You and your partner can choose to spend a bit more in certain areas, while spending less in others. Once you have an idea of the areas in which you want to spend more money and those where you want to spend less money, you will then need to find the cost of all these items. It is a smart idea to call various merchants in your area to find out how much they charge for their products or goods. Once you figure out the cost of all the things you want to include in your wedding, you can then begin adjusting your budget to meet those needs.

When it comes to location, you have a lot of options. If you hold the wedding locally, it will be a lot cheaper than holding it at a resort. You could rent out space for a certain period of time, and then you can hold the wedding during this time frame. One thing that you will also have to decide is whether or not you want to plan the wedding yourself, or hire a wedding planner. A wedding planner will be naturally more expensive, but if you don't know what you're doing, attempting to plan the wedding yourself could spell trouble.

The last area that you will need to consider is the photography. This is a crucial part of any wedding, because the photos that are taken will be those that can be passed down from one generation to the next. Photography can be expensive depending on the photographer you hire, but again, shopping around and comparing price and quality can help you find the absolute best deal.

Tips to Choose Your Wedding Jewelry

As you begin your search for your wedding jewelry there are a few things you must keep in mind. The wedding jewelry must actually contrast your wedding dress, however ironic it may sound. If your wedding dress is fancy and gaudy try to stick to simple and understated jewelry.

On the other hand if you're wedding attire is simple, try to liven it up with a bit of showy jewelry. The next thing, it must compliment the way you wear your hair. If you are wearing the hair in an up-do, then larger earrings will make you look a stunner with your dress. For those of you who prefer wearing their hair down, go for small studs or miniature hoops.

Though it may seem insignificant, the way you wear your veil can also have an impact on your persona. Jewelry that is too gaudy and huge tends to make you look odd and rob quite a lot of your charisma by becoming a distraction. The color of the metal is of vital importance.

Of course the color of metal depends on the metal you choose. The commonly preferred metals are Gold and Silver, whichever you choose you should try to stick to one and not mix them up. This hold true especially for earrings and necklaces as these are the most conspicuous parts of your wedding jewelry. These days many brides choose to wear pearls on their wedding day. They have this magical ability to look stunning with almost any type of wedding dress and hair do.

Sterling Silver wedding bands make a chic statement besides being durable and sturdy. Usually the wedding band is a highly polished band of either silver or gold. Selecting a sterling silver wedding band begins with the design preference. The commonly preferred ones are those with personalized engravings, channel set gemstone accents or just a simply highly polished one.

Apart from the design, the size of the ring is also of prime importance and is a vital consideration when shopping for sterling silver bands. Besides being attractive they are less expensive and available at a fraction of the price you will be paying for other precious metal. With regular care, and polishing sterling silver can last a life time. Another metal that has been growing in prominence is Titanium. The metal's hypoallergic qualities, lightweight, affordability renders it a good choice for wedding jewelry. Titanium is an extremely tough metal and is practically unbreakable.

Contemporary Wedding Invitations For Your Contemporary Wedding

Are you planning a wedding? If you've just become engaged, now is a good time to start. There are more details than you can shake a stick at, ones you may never have imagined. You want everything to be perfect and that's a tall order indeed. While there are traditional and more contemporary styles of weddings, we're going to take a look at one item in the mountain of details: contemporary wedding invitations.

Contemporary wedding invitations are usually highly personalized to the bride and groom, incorporating photographs or even paintings of the happy couple, if you have an artist in your circle of friends.

With digital technology and graphics design software, you can create backgrounds that may be printed on blank stock. If the newlyweds are honeymooning in Hawaii, a tropical scene as your background can make a happy memory live forever in this keepsake.

Contemporary wedding invitations are sometimes printed on a single high rag content card rather than the traditional note card style. This alone adds to the contemporary flavor and mood of your invitations.

You'll need to decide whether you'll have the words of the invitation printed or hand lettered. Calligraphy is quite popular. You might consider a rapidograph to hand print invitations, complete with serifs on each letter, for a distinctive, contemporary look.

If you choose to have your invitations professionally printed, be aware there are many printing options available. Some are very pricey, and you may not find all of them suitable to for your style.

Keep your mind open when exploring these options. Engraving, embossing and thermography are some examples of printing embellishments.

Although the contemporary wedding invitations generally bend the rules a bit, certain points of protocol still apply. If you pick stock invitations, they'll come with matching envelopes. If your invitations are hand made, there are still standard sizes of papers and envelopes to match that size of paper stock.

Depending on your invitation design, you may want a colored envelope to make the perfect presentation.
Other tasks you'll need to accomplish in producing your finished invitations include ordering or designing thank you notes, creating a clear map of directions to the event and RSVP cards.

If ordering printed cards, you'll want to find out your printer's required lead time to deliver your invitations. You'll want to mail them out at least 6 weeks to 2 months in advance, so your guests will have plenty of time to adjust their schedule as necessary and make flight reservations if they'll be traveling a distance.

Now you must see how important it is to get going with planning your wedding. If you follow these tips, you'll have picture-perfect invitations. If you're feeling overwhelmed, consult with a wedding planner!

Do You Know The Different Processes Of Wedding Invitation Printing?

Although the home use printers can produce high quality
printouts. Couples can certainly print their wedding cards at
home. However, many of them will still opt to hire a wedding
invitation printer to do the work. This is because it is
virtually no way to do some of the printing processes at home.
The followings are some of the common process that will be
involved in invitation card printing.

Full Color Printing

In fact, it should be called four color printing. With the four
colors Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black (CMYK in short), you can
nearly get all the colors printed. Indeed it is possible to have
color printing at home and some of the home use printers are
also using CMYK colors. However, it is still suggested to hire a
printer to print the invitations.

First of all no all paper can be used with your printer at
home. You printer probably cannot handle paper over certain
thickness. Besides, some of the paper cannot be used with the
ink of toner of your printer. On the other hand, if you would
like to have some special colors such as fluorescent colors or
metallic colors, there is no way to print these colors at home.
In this case the only choice is to hire a professional wedding
invitation printer.

You may plan to make your own wedding invitation design using
your PC and give the computer files to the printer to have the
print job done. In this case you have to communicate with your
printer for all the necessary requirements. Some examples will
be the resolution of the images required (usually 350dpi) and
the format of the file (CMYK instead of RGB format).

Die-cutting

Die-cutting is not a printing process but a post printing
process. In fact, all the techniques that are going to be
discussed below will be post printing processes. With the
technique of die-cutting, you can make beautiful "cutting-out"
on your wedding invitation. However, if you are thinking of very
fine and delicate patterns, die-cutting cannot be used. In this
case you will need to go for the option of laser cutting. With
laser cutting you can make very fine "cutting-out" but that will
probably increase the cost of production.

Besides laser cutting, any technique related to laser is laser
marking. With laser marking, patterns can be "marked" on the
paper. The effect of laser marking varies from material to
material. For some paper you can see the marks on the paper and
for some out kind of paper, you can only use you hand to feel
the marks.

Hot Stamping and Emboss

On your wedding invitation, you can also have some patterns
embossed such that people can feel the patterns with their
hands. One of the common application of emboss on invitation
card design is embossing the logo or monogram of the couple.
Apart from emboss, hot stamping is also a common technique that
will be used in producing wedding invitations. You can choose
the color of the hot stamping foil and some of the common colors
are gold, silver and purple. Couples will usually choose foils
with shiny effect since the invitation will look more elegant
this way. The most common application of hot stamping the
contents of the wedding invitations, normally couples will have
the words on the cards hot stamped instead of printing.

Choosing Wedding Invitations In Hong Kong - A Dilemma

In Hong Kong, couples will think that traditional wedding cards
are something old fashioned, in red color with golden hot
stamping. Besides, all these traditional invitation cards are
all provided by a few printing companies and all of them look
alike. They would like to make their wedding as unique as
possible and as a result they will have a perception that it
will not be a good idea to choose wedding invitations with
traditional designs.

Virtually, the alternative choice for the traditional
invitation cards is invitations with what people in Hong Kong
called western style (in fact I will define that as Hong Kong
style). They are usually white in color, which is a great
contrast to the traditional red color. However, white color in
China usually means death. As a result, the parents of the
couples may not like this kind of wedding invitations since
these cards touch the taboos of Chinese people.

In fact, the choice of wedding invitation can result in
disagreement between the couple and the parents. There was a
couple who wanted to order the western style wedding invitation.
And as a consequence they ordered them from a print shop and
after they got everything printed, they found that their parents
did not like the invitation designs very much.

The couple was really in a dilemma since they did not even
think about the problem of white color wedding invitations. And
finally they had to order everything again. This time what they
order is the red color design in order to satisfy the
requirements by their parents.

In fact couples are not reluctant to use the red color wedding
invitation designs. They do not find the color an obstacle. The
main problem is the design of these traditional cards. The cards
are not properly designed. Indeed the companies which provide
such wedding cards are print shops rather than designers. We
have to admit that the interest of a designer and a print shop
will be very different. The help of professional designers will
be needed in order to make the traditional red color wedding
cards more elegant.

As a graphic designer myself, I do not see anything wrong with
the red color and golden hot stamping. They are only a choice of
color and printing technique at the end of the day. In fact I am
an advocate of traditional elements. However, we should
manipulate the design elements wisely so that we do not copy
what the print shop did in the past. For example, we can
introduce Chinese paper cut patterns into the wedding
invitations to make the invitation cards more elegant.

>From my point of view, the print shops should work hand in hand
with professional designers to redefine a new generation of
Chinese wedding invitations. We should try to design the wedding
invitations in a way that it is on one hand in line with the
Chinese tradition and on the other hand has their own merits.
Modern designs today can become traditional designs tomorrow. We
need to constantly define and redefine our modern designs such
that unique Chinese wedding invitations can be made.

Ideas For Your Beach Wedding Invitation

A beach wedding is considered more stylish than a formal one.
In fact it is perfect for couples who believe that the big day
should be full of fun. To this end a beach wedding is less
formal. In this case you invitation can also be a less formal
one.

When we talk about the beach and sea, the first thing that may
come to your mind is most probably a seashell. You can put
patterns or graphics of seashells on the invitation card. You
may also find photos of seashells and put them on the
invitation.

If you do not satisfy with the idea of putting images of the
seashells on the card, you can go one step further. You can
consider using a real seashell as an element of the wedding
card. You can put it in the invitation envelop. If you are using
a glass bottle as a container for your invitation, you can even
put a few small seashells into it.

Besides seashell, sand can also represent the idea of a beach.
The ideal case is that you can take the sand from the beach you
are going to have your wedding. You can stick a thin layer of
sand on the card. From this your guests will certainly have a
clue about your wedding once they see the wedding card.

Again, if you are going to use a glass bottle, you can put the
sand into the bottle. In fact a glass bottle is an interesting
idea since it will be like a sculpture. However, you need to
bear in mind that a glass bottle can be quite heavy. As a result
the postage will be higher than you originally expect. Besides,
you should also take extra care about the package when you mail
it out since a glass bottle can be easily broken if it is not
packed with care.

If you would like to going back to the idea of a printed card,
you can also consider the following idea. You can draw some
cartoon drawings of a beach. You can even draw a portrait of
you, with the wedding dresses on, to indicate that it is your
wedding on a beach. The style of the drawing can be a funny one.
As discussed before, a beach wedding is full of fun. Your
invitation should also be full of fun.

Nowadays some couples will choose to put their photos into the
wedding invitation. This idea can be perfect for your beach
theme invitation. However, you may need to spend some time for
the photos. You do not just choose a photo at home to put on the
wedding card. Instead you will go to the beach you are going to
have your wedding and take a photo there. You do not need to
hire a photographer to take photos for you. A causal photo can
be perfect. The key is to express the love of you and your
spouse. An invitation card like this can be an extremely
romantic one.

Choosing Your Wedding Invitation - Some Useful Tips

Most couples will know that the cost of the wedding invitation
is only a fraction of that of the other items such as the gown
and wedding photos. However, the lower prices do not mean that
it is not important. In fact it is as important as your wedding
reception venue! Your big day is meaningful because your friend
and relatively come and share the memorable moments with you.
And to this end you will need to invite time and that is why the
invitation is extremely important.

When choosing the vendor for your invitation card, the first
thing you need to consider is the reputation of it. You should
also ask for samples of their previous projects to see if they
can deliver the services and final products in good quality. And
without any surprise, you should never go for a vendor who is of
bad reputation and does not deliver services in the highest
quality.

You will need to think and discuss with the vendor the style of
the wedding card. Most couples will opt to match the design of
their cards to their wedding theme. As a result, you may need to
communication with the designer about your theme so that the
designer can help you to design the card. Whenever necessary,
you should also bring samples of colors and materials for your
decorations to the designer so that he or she can have a even
deeper understanding on your big day.

One of the most popular options is to put your photos into the
card. It will be more than perfect if you are going to take some
pre-wedding photos. In this case you can put these photos into
the card. As a matter of fact couples in China are usually going
to take these photos with theirs gowns on. These will make the
card even more interesting and meaningful.

Apart from the design of your wedding card, the contents and
details are also very important. You need to make sure that
there is not spelling mistakes in the card. Besides, you should
also put extra attention on the words such as honor and honour.

There is only limited space in your wedding invitations. If you
find that there is not space to incorporate all the details on
your ceremony and reception. You may need to print a separate
card and insert it into the invitation. For example, you may
need to print the detail addresses of the venues, as well as
maps on a separate card.

You have also to consider the lead time of production. Whenever
possible, you should allow a time that the cards can be done
twice. By doing that you will have another chance to do it again
if there is something wrong when they are printed at the first
time. As a result, if it takes six weeks to finish them, you
should order them about twelve weeks before. You should bear in
mind that you will only have your wedding once in your life and
there is no point to let any of the items be imperfect because
of some silly mistakes such as not having enough time for
production.
